washer wont start,no noise,water good,spin cycle works(no water)dryer works,timer swith or water valve ?

I'm assuming this is a Top Loading Kenmore, which should make it a Direct Drive unit manufactured by Whirlpool for Sears under the Kenmore name.

hmmm... well, since it will go into spin, the timer should be ok, and the Lid Switch is definitely ok. The problem is that it won't fill with water. Until the Water Level switch trips, the unit will not agitate. So when you say no noise, you mean you don't even hear the hum from the water valve solenoid?. What about changing water temperature to warm, if you have both hot and cold hooked up, will it fill then? If it still does nothing, then its an electrical problem, either in the timer, or you may have gotten some mice in your unit chewing on your wiring harness. Timers aren't cheap, and if you can get into the unit with a meter and check for 110v at the water solenoid during the fill cycle that would be better than just guessing. If you do have 110v at the solenoid, then you need a new water valve. If you don't have 110v, then I would inspect the wiring for signs of mice. If no sign of mice and the harness looks good, then I would go ahead and order a new timer. The water valve is about $20 last I knew and the timer is about $80 - $140 depending on your specific unit (this is a few years ago)
